Referee
Referees are integral to the maintenance of order within football. However, popular discourse frequently characterises football referees as unsuccessful players; that it attracts individuals motivated by an unfulfilled desire for authority; or that it appeals to those who derive satisfaction from occupying an adversarial or punitive role within the sporting spectacle. But their most likely reason is that they like football, and enjoy being involved in a game that would descend into anarchy if they weren't around to police it!
